Deforestation
The clearing of trees and vegetation for a number of reasons, ranging from urban and agricultural development to timber production. Not only does this reduce the ability of the biosphere to capture carbon dioxide but also intensifies the impacts of climate change, for example decreasing slope stability so leading to more landslides during periods of rain.
