In short, means the ability to maintain production over time. Production can refer to both natural and human systems. In the natural world, it includes the endurance of the diverse ecologies and complex systems that make the planet inhabitable, from the survival of CO2 absorbing plants to the preservation of a varied food web. In terms of humans, it involves the exploitation of resources that are constantly refreshed (renewable), whether for energy production or to meet population demands, to ensure development without harming the environment.
