The increasing use of IT equipment in offices has increased the requirement for air conditioning. There are some simple low cost ways to save energy and make your air condition system more efficient.
Heat pump
Most offices have air conditioning and they account for a substantial amount of the energy consumed in an office. In some cases heating is competing with the air conditioning and effectively wasting energy.
Here are a few tips to reduce energy consumption:
- Ensure that the the air conditioning unit is not operating below 24°C. Speaking with the staff is an important plays an important role here as staff tend to compete on heating and cooling of an office which can lead to heating and cooling running simultaneously.
- Look into free cooling coils which use the air outside to cool down the office when its cold enough. In most Northern European and North American countries free cooling coils can have considerable savings.
- Look into replacing your air condition unit with a heat pump. This installation will pay for itself within 5 years and produces heat as well as cooling cutting the costs of electricity with two thirds.
