The UK government has committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 80% by 2050 from 1990 levels.
The UK government is working on a Climate Reduction Commitment programme, which will extend emissions trading to cover non energy-intensive sectors such as central government departments, large retail organisations, supermarkets, hotel chains, banks, universities, hospitals and large local authorities, and will be legislated through the forthcoming Climate Change Bill.
